Read on for advice like: “The long exposures required for firework photography mean slow shutter speeds. Keep your camera motionless by using a sturdy tripod and a shutter release cord. When shooting a scene that includes not just the sky but also other elements like a cityscape, keeping the horizon line straight is particularly important.”

Creative Mornings: Masterpieces You Can Eat for Breakfast

Ida Skivenes likes to play with her food. And lucky for us, because the Oslo, Norway-based artist crafts the most stunning homages to modern art through a few simple ingredients and a lot of detail. For her “Art Toast Project,” she’s been remaking some of the world’s most famous works of art in a unique medium: jam, cheese, peanut butter, and other food stuffs using toast as her canvas.

In this ongoing project, with new work posted on her Instagram account regularly, she attempts to make art more accessible to the public, and perhaps play on the concept of “food porn” that so many Instagrammers flood their feeds with. The artist explains, “What inspired me initially was the literal meaning of ‘food art,’ in that one creates artworks with food. So I combined that with my personal interest in modern art and set out to see if it was possible to recreate famous painters masterpieces without dishonoring them completely. It’s a way of sharing my love of both food and art together.”

Underwater: Original Emerging Artists’ Photo Prints for Sandy Relief

I lost almost everything I own: family photos, childhood letters, first editions, and rare photographs I skipped lunch for months to afford to buy, like a series of Wingate Paine prints I discovered in a junk shop on Crosby Street in 2002. So in the end, turns out I didn’t have to move anything from New York after all. Also, on the bright side, I’d just spent several weeks working on an interview about R. Adam Smith, the CEO/Chairman of V&M, Vintage and Modern, “the leading online curated marketplace of unique design goods.”

…as part of the launch, V&M and its participating artists will donate up to 30 percent of all net proceeds, in the program’s first 31 days, to the New York Foundation of the Arts (NYFA), which supports fellow artists affected by Hurricane Sandy.

‘A Colorful Winter’ by photographer Florent Tanet comes right in time has winter finally hit, everything is grey and drab and we lack some playful colors. Inspired by a luxury comestibles boutique in the famous Le Bon Marché department store in Paris, Tanet arranged every day fruits and vegetables into graphic patterns, successively sculptures and still lives.

A Photographer Gives a Whole New Meaning ‘Free Range’ Meat

Agan Harahap’s photo series “Garden Fresh” imagines what would happen if animals roamed the grocery store, giving a whole new meaning to “free range” meat.
