GOOD Staffers Volunteer To Teach Kids How To Code
“It’s really incredible what the next generation is already building and shaping for our future,” says Senior UI Designer, Doris Yee.
Doris, along with Doug (Chief Technical Officer) and Ben (Lead Developer), volunteered last week at the L.A. Youth Hack Jam, an effort to engage kids, between the ages of 5-18, in the world of programming.
10 Days Till Neighborday: How Are You Celebrating?
- GOOD HQ in Culture, News and Cities
On April 27, GOOD community members everywhere (in 34 states and 12 countries so far, but our list is growing!) will be celebrating Neighborday. From potlucks to street clean-ups, people have inspiring plans to be social the old-fashioned way—spending quality face-to-face time with the friends and neighbors in their communities.
Will you join us? With only 10 days left, we’re hoping you’ll sign up and create your own Neighborday with our toolkit. It’s easy—check out the map above to see where people all over the country are celebrating and read on for inspiration to create your own.

[Updated: Challenge #3] Let’s Make a Neighborday Documentary Together
- GOOD HQ wrote in Neighboring, Community and Film
Hey GOOD Community,
We want your help documenting the awesomeness that is Neighborday. We’ll be issuing four video challenges leading up to the big event, in an effort to chronicle all the cool ways you’re gearing up for April 27th. Then, once we’ve collected all the footage, we’ll use it for a documentary we’re releasing in May about Neighbordays across the globe that you can share with your friends and neighbors.
Capture yourself going to invite a neighbor to Neighborday. Okay, we know, this one might be a little awkward, but Neighborday is all about getting out of your comfort zone. We want to see your nervousness, your excitement, and some authentic moments of you interacting with your neighbors. Brainstorm some activities, plan a menu, or compare playlists with that guy who you’ve seen a million times but never had the nerve to say hello to!
When you’re done, remember to Go HERE to submit your video!
Important Question: Is studying Buffy the Vampire Slayer more important than studying Shakespeare?
Can’t wait to see this!
Ends of the Earth: Land Art to 1974 is the first large-scale, historical-thematic exhibition to deal broadly with Land art, capturing the simultaneous impulse emergent in the 1960s to use the earth as an artistic medium and to locate works in remote sites far from familiar art contexts. 101 Facts About 100 Women of the House and Senate
- Jessica De Jesus posted a Learn in Women and Politics
Last Thursday, a record 101 women were sworn in as members of the US House and Senate, which means that now, a mere 80% of federal elected officials are male. Woo! Girl power! It’s the end of men! But before we get ahead of ourselves celebrating women’s total 20% domination of the legislative branch, let’s take a minute to get to know a cocktail party fact about each of the 101 women who will be spending at least the next several weeks pretending to usher in a new era of bipartisanship in Washington.

Who is David Edwards? In a photo on his site, he appears seated at a table in front of a kind of culinary bong. His mass of wavy inventor hair is glossy brown, his stubble silver, his spectacles round, lips turned down, eyes smiling. A drinking glass with a gray fog curling out of it is tipped delicately between three fingers in his right hand.
Edwards, who is 51, has been called a Willy Wonka, a mad scientist, a Nutty Professor. He has the eccentricity of these characters, coupled with the institutional support of Harvard and his own deep pockets. Like them, he’s found a way to pursue his most outlandish ideas.
