I'm so so so so so in love with Good. Your infographs are simply to die for. As a high school interested in pursuing graphic deisgn, what are some tips and tricks to making kick ASS graphics?
Hey, this is Dylan, the editorial design director at GOOD. First, thanks! We really love that you dig the infographics, and we’re glad you find them inspirational and informative. Seriously, this is what gets us out of bed in the morning.
There’s not a quick way to learning how to make infographics. We have always believed in a strong sense of design being the basis for anything we do at GOOD, which means knowing the basics inside and out of typography, composition, color theory and hierarchy. That’s where you should start. One book I can personally recommend to get started on that is John Kane’s A Type Primer, which is a really great book that teaches you more than just typography. There’s some really amazing data viz books out there, too, that I will sometimes peruse for inspiration or knowledge about how to make these.
As with anything though, it just takes time, practice, and patience. Hopefully there’s enough here for you (or anyone!) interested in design to move forward with pursuing it. Thanks again for the question!
