Last year, we called out Weapons of Mass Creation, which founder Jeff Finley calls a “punk-rock-DIY version of SXSW,” for not incorporating enough rock-star women designers. So we were thrilled when Finley sent us the lineup for this year’s festival, which will feature a much-improved gender ratio—about a third of the speakers are women, compared to four of 23 last year. That’s still not parity, but the improvement is notable, and we hope the upward trajectory to continue next year. The speaker roster has grown more racially diverse, too, though there’s plenty of room to grow on that front.
